Balloon in sky strikes fear

A research balloon launched by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) Balloon Facility was mistaken by many in the city for an UFO on Wednesday morning. Several people across the city reported sighting a bright object in the sky during the morning hours. However, a scientist from the TIFR Balloon Facility, who didn’t want to be named, confirmed that the bright object was in fact a research balloon. He clarified that the research facility had launched an X-ray (Laser) scientific balloon at midnight and it floated for about 10 hours before settling at Bhongir near the city. The scientist also said that the balloon had fulfilled the purpose it was sent for and a recovery team had been sent to Bhongir to recover data and instruments from the balloon.

In April 2009, a similar sighting had excited the population and then too, the TIFR Balloon Facility had confirmed that it had been a research balloon launched by them. The TIFR Balloon Facility near ECIL launches large volume research balloons during summer and winter every year for scientific experiments concerned with space astronomy and atmospheric sciences.

N. Sri Raghunandan, secretary of the Planetary Society of India, explained that balloons are still used by research facilities to study atmospheric and weather conditions. "These large balloons appear very bright as they reflect light. Hence they are often mistaken to be celestial or astronomical bodies." He went on to advise the public not to panic on such sightings in the future.

Da kann man sich mal wieder die alte Frage stellen, ob UFO-Image-Fälschungen trotzdem nicht besser als die 'Echten' sind. Im Zusammenhang mit UFO-Sichtungsnotizen sind Fotos und Filme ein eigenes, großes Thema. Einerseits ein objektivierbares Indiz, andererseits aber problembehaftet. Seit Beginn an gibt es eine eigene Fälscherkultur, die mit den typischen "Fliegenden Untertassen" ein Klischee bedient. Seit der Verbreitung der Digitalfotografie sieht sich die Untersucherszene zudem einer Schwemme von mehr oder weniger aussagekräftigen (Zufalls-) Fotos udn Filmen gegenüber. Dumm ist zudem, das auch bei unterstützenden Werturteilen durch Experten, dies keine Gewähr dafür ist, dass das Imagematerial tatsächlich echt ist. Die UFO-Historie ist voller Pleiten in dieser Richtung, die schließlich auch den Kicherfaktor zum Thema über die UFOlogie förderten und nährten.  Die Problematik von Fotoanalysen zeigte sich schon vor Jahrzehnten im Rahmen des Analyse-Projektes der amerikanischen 'Ground Saucer Watch' (GSW), die ab 1978, bis in die 80er, versuchte, anhand der damals neu verfügbaren Computeranalysen, die Echtheit von UFO-Fotos oder deren Fälschung nachzuweisen. Mit unterschiedlichem Erfolg. Es gelang, in mehren Fällen den Betrug nachzuweisen. Andererseits beinhaltet nicht jede Fälschung eindeutige Merkmale, die sich auch über eine Fotoanalyse identifizieren lassen. Ganz abgesehen davon, dass auch herkömmliche Objekte ohne jegliche Fälschungsabsicht abgelichtet sein können und unfreiwillig UFO-Images erzeugen. So lautete auch das Fazit des Projekts, bei dessen Einstellung, dass man mit solchen Analysen ggf. lediglich eine bestimmte Fälschung nachweisen könne, ein fehlender Nachweis aber kein Beweis für ein "echtes" UFO-Foto im Sinne eines exotischen Phänomens sei.

Gleich wieder eine spektakuläre Enthüllung ganz aktuell...

Dies braucht uns aber nicht zu überraschen, schließlich wurde soetwas auch schon über Nürnberg und Österreich verfolgt:

Strange Lights Over Texas City Prompts UFO Talk - Homeland Security Investigates?!

A mystery over the skies of Texas City has a lot of people talking. Unusual red lights were caught on camera by perplexed residents over the weekend. From flares to UFOs -- everyone has their own explanation. Folks who grabbed their cameras near Moses Lake say they knew it was something strange hovering high in this sky. It was something peculiar that they say just didn't belong. Dozens of folks in Texas City saw an arrangement of strange red dots high in the sky late Saturday night. Eyewitness Debbie James said, "I just went in and grabbed my camera." James is one of several people who got video of the peculiar red lights and posted it online. "It was like in a Z pattern," she recalled. "It was like a perfect Z." James and other worried eyewitnesses say those strange lights circled the sky for at least 20 minutes, slowly moving about in geometric shapes. "It was a straight line, then it went to like a figure 8, and then it made this half moon and kept changing shapes." At first some thought the lights were from tower antennas near Moses Lake. But when neighbors remembered lights on the tall towers don't move, that's when all the speculation and jokes began. Eyewitness Matthew James said, "Oh yeah, everybody, alien this... alien that. It was just pretty funny." The bottom line -- neighbors say they want some answers about this strange sighting. So we talked to Texas City's Homeland Security Director Bruce Clawson. He said, "No, no aliens that we know of." Clawson's been reviewing video and looking into reports of the strange sighting. He says investigators have already ruled out alien activity. "You know the hidden agenda here is UFO," Clawson explained. "The lights weren't what normally gets reported. They didn't move in concert, they didn't move fast. They moved very slow and drifted." Clawson says the lights appear to be nothing more than a big prank. And curious neighbors are laughing it off. James said, "Just a little excitement." The homeland security director says someone was playing a practical joke. When we asked if that person would face any punishment or criminal charges, Clawson said no, not at this time. - ABC 13.

Und auch hier wieder zwar nettes Nicht-Alien-UFO-Geschwätz, aber keine richtige sowie definitive Final-Erklärungs-Antwort - so gehts ja auch nicht, da dies die Hintertüre für andere dummes UFO-Theorien-Zeugs aus der populären UFO-Theorien-Welt zwischen geheime Geheimwaffenflieger bis hin zu 'intelligenten Kugelblitzen' aufmacht! Sie kennen ja die heißluftigen UFOs von Ostern zu diesen Fällen bereits... Ein Kommentar dazu ist von einem 'Leser' (wahrscheinlich journalistischen Laien) doch dagegen definitiv richtig:
